A little bit about me…
I’m Vicki, ‘The Uncomplicated Counsellor’
I am based in North Hampshire, on the Surrey and Berkshire border.
Like many people, I haven’t followed a particularly straightforward or predictable career path — and I think that’s probably a good thing!
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent years working in Recruitment and Human Resources, but I was always more interested in the people side of things than the business.
If I’m honest, I never quite felt like I belonged in the corporate world.
I always wanted to work in more of a ‘helping’ capacity, so I made the move to working at a Domestic Abuse Refuge, supporting women and children through some incredibly difficult times.
It was challenging and humbling, but also some of the most meaningful work I’ve ever done. It confirmed something I’d been feeling for a long time: I wanted to spend my working life doing something that felt valuable and genuinely helped people.
Becoming a counsellor felt like a natural next step, as it brought together the things I’ve always valued:
Understanding people
Building genuine connections
Helping people make sense of what’s going on in their lives
Today, alongside my private practice, I volunteer with a community counselling agency, working with adults experiencing all sorts of challenges.
What I try to offer is simple: a calm, down-to-earth space where you can be yourself, talk openly without judgement, and take things at your own pace.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come to counselling.
You don’t need to know exactly what you want to talk about either.
We can start wherever you are.
Hopefully, this helps you decide if I’m the sort of person you’d feel comfortable talking to.
If you feel we’d be a good match, please reach out—I’d love to hear from you.
But if you feel you need something different, trust your instincts—knowing what you need is a great place to start.
The main thing is that you find the right person for you, and I wish you all the best with taking that important next step.
How I can help…
I work with adults of all ages and backgrounds.
While no two people are the same, most clients come to me because they're dealing with one or more of the following:
1. MENTAL & EMOTIONAL STRAIN:
Anxiety, low mood, depression, burnout, or feeling overwhelmed with the challenges of life.
2. LOSS & UNWANTED CHANGE:
Grief, loss of purpose, big life transitions (such as retirement or work challenges), or feeling like you've lost your identity.
3. RELATIONSHIP & LIFE DIFFICULTIES:
Loneliness, boundary issues, or recovering from toxic and abusive dynamics.
MY APPROACH & HOW I WORK
When working with me, there’s no rigid formula and no set script. I believe that counselling works best when it feels like an honest conversation.
My job isn't to tell you what to do, or to pretend I have all the answers. It’s about helping you make sense of what’s going on and help you find a way forward.
HOW WE TACKLE THINGS TOGETHER
I tailor my approach to what you actually need, drawing mainly on person-centred and psychodynamic counselling.
Simply put, that means:
FOCUSING ON THE PRESENT: A space where you set the agenda. Focusing on what’s pressing on your mind right now.
UNDERSTANDING THE ROOT CAUSE: Unpacking past experiences so you can make sense of why you react the way you do.
MAKING SENSE OF RELATIONSHIPS: Looking at your underlying relationship styles and why certain dynamics keep playing out in your life.
